A salary can look very different once the cost of living is taken into account. This is now at the centre of a discussion around Bengaluru, after a woman living in the city shared her views on the income needed to manage life there. Her comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with users discussing everything from home ownership and rent to career growth. The conversation began after she suggested that people should think carefully before moving to Bengaluru on a lower income.

Woman puts Rs 1 lakh salary in focus

Atreyee shared her views in an Instagram video and said people earning less than Rs 1 lakh a month should reconsider moving to Bengaluru.“If you don’t earn a minimum, minimum Rs 1 lakh monthly, then please don’t come to Bengaluru,” she said. She based her opinion largely on the amount people may have to spend on housing.

Bengaluru property prices enter the discussion

Atreyee spoke about the difficulty of buying a home in the city, particularly for middle-class families. She claimed that houses in Bengaluru start at around Rs 2 crore. According to her, properties in better localities and housing societies can cost between Rs 3 crore and Rs 4 crore.

Rent is another part of the calculation

She also discussed the cost of renting a home.According to Atreyee, a basic 2BHK in a housing society can cost around Rs 40,000 to Rs 45,000 per month. She added that individual houses outside gated societies can cost at least Rs 30,000 a month. These expenses were central to her argument about the income required to live comfortably in the city.

What salary does she consider comfortable?

Atreyee said people earning around Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4 lakh per month would be better placed to manage Bengaluru’s expenses. Her Instagram post carried the caption, “Don’t come to Bangalore if you’re not earning atleast Rs 1 lakh monthly.”

Users share different views

Some users suggested that people working in Bengaluru could consider buying property in areas farther from the city rather than purchasing a home there.Others disagreed with the idea that young professionals need a very high salary before moving to Bengaluru. One user said the focus should instead be on building skills and growing professionally rather than expecting to immediately earn a large salary or own a house. The reactions show that Atreyee’s view is far from universally accepted. While her comments have put Bengaluru’s housing costs back into the conversation, users have different ideas about how much income is actually needed to build a life in the city.Disclaimer: The views and claims mentioned in this article are based on an Instagram video and comments shared by users online.
