Thirty alphabets, one pencil and 93 minutes. Those are the figures behind an entry in the India Book of Records, where seven-year-old Rudransh Bhowmik of West Tripura, Tripura, has been recorded for writing the alphabet of the maximum number of languages by a child.

The attempt

Rudransh, born on October 29, 2018, wrote the alphabets of 30 national and international languages, among them Georgian, Russian, Bengali, Arabic and Japanese. He finished in 1 hour and 33 minutes, using only paper and pencil, at the age of 7 years, 10 months and 6 days. The time works out to a little over three minutes per language. Each script has its own letterforms, and the task asks a writer to hold many unrelated sets of them in mind. Arabic runs right to left, Russian uses the Cyrillic script and Georgian has a script of its own, so there is little overlap to lean on.

The record and the body behind it

The achievement is listed under the Young Achievers category. The India Book of Records describes itself as a national organisation that documents and verifies extraordinary achievements and talents across individual, team, mass participation and institutional categories. It is affiliated to the Asia Book of Records and follows the Asian Protocol of Records, a framework agreed at a meeting of national record book editors in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
