Sunny Deol’s ‘Suryaa – Ant Se Aarambh Tak’ faces IMA objection ahead of November 20 release; association seeks impartial review and action under law

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has written to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, asking for an urgent review of the film ‘Suryaa – Ant Se Aarambh Tak’. The association has objected to the way the film shows the medical profession and to scenes of alleged violence against healthcare workers.

What the IMA has raised in its letter

According to the India Today report, in the letter, the IMA flagged the film’s depiction of corruption in healthcare, alleged misconduct by medical professionals and scenes showing attacks on doctors, nursing staff and hospital personnel. It asked for an impartial review and for suitable action if it is justified under the law.According to the association, the film may give the impression that corruption, unethical practices and wrongdoing are common across the medical community. It said authorities should investigate and punish individual misconduct, but the reputation of honest and committed doctors should not suffer for it.

Concern over violence against doctors

The IMA also voiced concern that scenes of physical assault on healthcare professionals, especially if shown as heroic or justified, could make violence against those who save lives seem normal. The letter pointed out that doctors and other hospital staff already face safety and security challenges. In the association’s view, content that appears to glorify such attacks may encourage hostility and put healthcare workers at greater risk.It further warned that such scenes could weaken public trust in the doctor-patient relationship by creating needless suspicion and hostility. This, it said, would harm the cooperation needed for proper treatment.

IMA says it does not support misconduct

The association clarified that it does not back corruption, unethical medical practices or professional misconduct. However, it said wrongdoing by individuals should be handled through legal and disciplinary action and not applied to an entire profession. The letter stated, “India needs more dedicated and motivated doctors to meet the healthcare needs of its growing population.” The IMA claimed that negative portrayals could demoralise medical students, put off aspiring doctors and hurt the dignity of a profession built on years of hard work, sacrifice, compassion and service.

‘Suryaa’ teaser and release date

The controversy follows the release of the film’s teaser on Monday, which coincided with Sunny Deol’s birthday. According to the makers, the teaser begins with a deeply personal loss that leaves the central character scarred before pulling him into a disturbing chain of events linked to the medical system. The cast also includes Ravi Kishan, Pragya Jaiswal, Tanushree Chakraborty, Manish Wadhwa, Tinu Anand, Virti Vaghani, Jisshu Sengupta, Khalid Siddiqui, Anoop Trivedi and Rohit Tiwari. ‘Suryaa – Ant Se Aarambh Tak’ is set to release in theatres on November 20.
