Flying to get costlier as IndiGo hikes fuel surcharge
IndiGo hikes fuel charges from October 6 amid rising ATF prices

NEW DELHI: Flying this festive season will get more expensive as aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices now reach the highest level in the last decade amid the continuing US-Iran war and a weakening rupee. IndiGo will hike fuel surcharge due to mounting operating expenses from Tuesday. The increase for domestic flights ranges from Rs 100 to Rs 350 per sector. The hike for international flights is up to Rs 2,500 per sector. Other airlines are likely to follow suit. This is the third hike in fuel surcharge since the West Asia crisis began.“The continuously rising ATF costs have required IndiGo to re-calibrate fuel charges across its domestic and international routes. The revised charges will be applicable to all new bookings made after 12.01 am on Oct 6, 2026. ATF prices have remained volatile in recent months, especially following geopolitical issues in the Middle East. The continuous rise in the fuel prices, with the latest month-on-month increase exceeding 14%, has taken ATF costs to levels that are among the highest in the last decade,” IndiGo said in a statement.
