Suriya’s upcoming film lineup has another interesting update doing the rounds in Tamil cinema. The actor, who has been choosing projects across different genres, is currently preparing for his next release, ‘Scene’, directed by Jithu Madhavan. Amid this, a new report has sparked curiosity about a possible reunion between Suriya and filmmaker Mani Ratnam, nearly 22 years after their last major collaboration.According to a News18 report, Suriya is reportedly in talks to team up with Mani Ratnam for the filmmaker’s next project after ‘Inji Vellam’. The report suggests that Mani Ratnam had narrated a story to Suriya several years ago and is now said to be reworking the script with some changes. However, the proposed project is still at the discussion stage, and Suriya’s approval is reportedly crucial for it to move forward. There is no official confirmation from either the actor or the director yet.
Suriya and Mani Ratnam previously worked together in ‘Aayutha Ezhuthu ’
The possible collaboration has naturally attracted attention because Suriya and Mani Ratnam have worked together only once as actor and director in a full-length Tamil feature. Their collaboration came with ‘Aayutha Ezhuthu’ in 2004, in which Suriya played Michael alongside R Madhavan and Siddharth.The film remains an important title in Suriya’s career, making a potential reunion with Mani Ratnam particularly notable. If the reported project moves forward, it would mark their first collaboration in more than two decades.
Mani Ratnam’s ‘Inji Vellam’ comes before the reported Suriya project
For now, Mani Ratnam’s immediate focus remains ‘Inji Vellam’, his upcoming romantic drama starring Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi. The film has reportedly been largely shot in Kolkata and is scheduled for a January 2027 theatrical release, with AR Rahman composing the music.Suriya, meanwhile, has ‘Scene’ with Jithu Madhavan in his upcoming lineup.
